Second prize for István Juhász at the First Moscow Conservatory International Competition for Winds and Percussion, held between 1^st and 7^th November, 2009

IT'S HARD TO SAY GOOD-BYE TO THE MUSIC ACADEMY…

…but you don’t have to.

Would you rather prefer to look around in the building that will be closed for two years; or show your children what it looked like and see the plans of the future appearance; or listen to the concerts of the professors and students of the Liszt Academy, or to organ music at night? Would you fancy some jazz or folk music, or listen to all the nine symphonies of Beethoven in one afternoon conducted by Zoltán Kocsis?

Yun Ha Hwang, pianist, the President of the Korean Liszt Society will have a recital on the 9th October, 7 p.m., in the concert hall of the Old Music Academy.

The first Liszt Competition was organized in Korea at the end of August by the Korean Liszt Society. There were more than a 100 participants in four age groups, out of them 44 qualified for the finals. Professor Péter Nagy, Head  of the Piano Department represented Hungary and the Liszt Academy in the jury.

A seminar under the title "The role of the Urtext in Performance of Chopin Works" will be held on the 1st October, at 3 p.m. in the concert hall of the Old Music Academy building (Vörösmarty utca 35) by Prof. Kaminski from Warsaw.

He is a Pianist, Pedagogue,  Co-editor of the National Edition of Chopin's complete works and President of the National Foundation's Board. He is currently assistant professor at the Chair of Piano at the Frederic Chopin Academy in Warsaw, Poland. He graduated with honors from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in 1983 in classes of Professors Jan Ekier and Prof. Alicija Paleta-Buagaj. Prof. Kaminski works with Professor Ekier on the National Edition project and supervises computer typesetting of the Edition`s volumes. He specializes in the field of urtext editions.

The Edition
It is the first edition of the complete works of Chopin, prepared in a critical, all-source available basis, with the employment of state-of-the-art research methodology. The result is a printed version, intended to reproduce the true and original interpretation intentions of the composer, without any added or changed material. Conducted under the direction of Professor Jan Ekier, the edition presents the results of 45 years of work of the world's top Chopin experts.

Duration: 90 minutes

Language: English

Form: Lecture illustrated with examples displayed on the screen (transparencies or electronic pictures from a notebook) played on the piano, and followed by an open class with 2-3 previously selected students.

The seminar was initiated and is sponsored by The Foundation for the National Edition of the Works of Fryderyk Chopin, Warsaw.

Attendants will get 1 credit.

The Opening Ceremony of the 2009/2010 School Year will take place on the 14th September, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Great Hall. All international students  are welcome. The Orientation Session for the freshmen will be held at 4.30 in the Recital Hall (KISTEREM).

Daniel Lebhardt the Hungarian student of Liszt Academy Special School for Exceptional Young Talents won 1st Prize in The International Russian Music Piano Competition, California, in the Intermediate age-group. In the final Daniel played a Haydn and a Prokofjev piece and impressed the jury so much that no 2nd prize was granted. Daniel studies under Professor István Gulyás and Gyöngyi Keveházi, joined Liszt Academy at the age of 9. Congratulations!
