The choir is the oldest permanent ensemble of the Liszt Academy. The choir was conducted by such renowned musicians as Zoltán Vásárhelyi and István Párkai. The current leader of the choir is one of the most experienced and most excellent representatives of the Kodály music pedagogy tradition and the Hungarian choir culture, Péter Erdei. The core of the choir consists of students from non-instrumental departments – choir conductor, music teacher, etc…- but students from other departments may also apply if they meet certain conditions. Beside an annual major concert at the Liszt Academy, the choir performs concerts abroad and is the foundation of large-scale oratorio works with the Alma Mater Symphony Orchestra.
The Church Music Department has its own choir performing a repertoire that is mainly related to church music.
