Music as bridge between two nations - fantastic performances of Gábor Farkas and Ádám Banda in Vietnam

The 60th anniversary of establishing the diplomatic relation between Vietnam and Hungary was celebrated by two wonderful gala concerts in Hanoi. Soloists of the evenings were pianist Gábor Farkas, student of the Doctoral School and assistant of the Liszt Academy of Music and violinist Ádám Banda, now in his last year of studies at the Academy.

The two concerts were held in the Hanoi Opera House as highlights of the festivities organized around the anniversary, the soloists were accompanied by the Vietnam Philharmonic Orchestra.

The enormous success of our fantastic young talents literally echoed through the media for days, just like the ecstatic applause that seemed to have no end. Besides presenting themselves as musicians, Gábor Farkas and Ádám Banda represented the rich musical heritage of Hungary too by playing works of Liszt, Hubay and Weiner.

Music has grown into a bridge connecting the two nations – stated the articles. The artistic director/conductor of the Vietnam Philharmonic Orchestra and its members were delighted to accompany Farkas and Banda: Rarely do we have the opportunity to enjoy the play of such extraordinary talents. Hungary surely has more virtuosos of this quality, and we would love to greet them in Vietnam. We are sure that these concerts will stay in the memory of the visitors as beautiful musical experiences impossible to forget.

Also worthy of mentioning is the fact that Ádám Banda played with a minor injury and could perform the encore only after replacing the bandage on his bleeding finger.

The Academy’s director, Jenő Hubay, one of the most renowned violinists of his day …… studied with the legendary Joseph Joachim, had been enthusiastically praised by Brahms, and had produced a whole generation of accomplished young violinists, including the great Joseph Szigeti. (Sir Georg Solti)
