Soundpainting Master Course with Vincent Le Quang

Professor of Improvisation at the Conservatoire de Paris

Small Concert Hall of the Liszt Academy of Music, 19th to 21st April, 2010

Soundpainting is a sign language or system of signals that allows the conductor to communicate with the musicians and improvise a composition on spot. This system was created by Walter Thompson.

Soundpainting can be performed by both instrumentalists and singers, previous experience in improvisation is not needed. It allows the cooperation of musicians performing very different styles or the cooperation of musicians who are at different stages of their musical education. Besides improvised parts, pieces studied earlier can be incorporated into the performance, which makes soundpainting into a very exciting tool when studying music.

Vincent Lê Quang (born 1975 in Aurillac, France) has graduated from the Schola Cantorum (Harmony, Counterpoint, Composition) and from the Conservatoire de Paris (Jazz, Improvisation). He was discovered at the 2003 La Défense International Jazz Competition, where he won first prizes both as soloist and with his ensemble. Today he is an active musician and composer. He dedicated himself to bringing soundpainting closer to musicians and audiences by conducting ensembles that are improvising music on stage. He has cooperated on recordings of such artists as Daniel Humair, Jean-Paul Celea and Riccardo Del Fra. He has been appointed Professor of Improvisation at the Conservatoire de Paris in 2007.
