It is a well-known fact that Liszt was an universal figure of music history who joined nations and cultures as a composer and performer. But it is likely that he wouldn't have counted on this "connecting ability" of his to survive for a hundred years arching across continents.

When Korean Yun Ha Hwang, one of the most significant pianists of her home country received the award "Pro Cultura Hungarica" in 2004 from the Hungarian State Liszt must have noted the fact happily in shadowland. Yun Ha Hwang founded the Liszt Society of Korea in 1999 of which she has been president of since then. Her concert on the 9th of October offers a cross-section of the unthinkably vast oeuvre of Liszt from popular pieces through virtuoso etudes to the amusing episodes of the "Years of Pelerinage".

In my view the justification of the idea of the Academy of Music is based alone on the hope that this institution will afford something really excellent. (Liszt to Ágoston Trefort)
