Gábor Farkas has won the renowned International FRANZ LISZT Piano Competition held in Weimar and Bayreuth

Gábor Farkas, student of the DLA Programme of our Academy and young lecturer at the Classical Piano Department has won the renowned International FRANZ LISZT Piano Competition held in Weimar and Bayreuth, two important cities in the life of the great composer

 

From more than sixty competitors from all around the world only three made it to the third and final round, in which Gábor played Liszt’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in A Major, a composition the Hungarian audience could hear recently in his interpretation with the accompaniment of the Orchestra of the Musashino Music Academy.

 

Gábor’s performance impressed the jury, the decision was unequivocal. Winning this competition means not just an award of 10.000 Euros, but a CD-contract and numerous invitations for concerts as well. The second place was granted to Oleksandr Poliykov (Ukraine), the third to Lin Zi Pan (China).

Besides the 1st prize Gabor was awarded with the Audience Prize and with the Special Prize for the best Haydn interpretation as well!

The Gala Concert of all laureates is scheduled for the 3rd November at the Stadthalle in Weimar.
