Kossuth Prize winning opera singer Éva Marton, professor of the Liszt Academy of Music and Head of the Oratorio, Lied and Opera Singing Department was awarded with the golden medal of the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona for her decade-long brilliant artistic achievements.
This golden medal was last given to Placido Domingo in 1979, before him winners were Victoria de los Angeles, Giacomo Aragall and Montserrat Caballé.
Besides Éva Marton, the prestigious award honoured the outstanding artistic work of Edita Gruberova, Dolora Zajick, Elena Obraztsova, José Carreras and Juan Pons. The festive ceremony took place in the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona on the 26th October, 2009.
