Application procedures for EU citizens

* !! IMPORTANT !! for full-time applicants from EU countries: we received the news on 20 January 2012 that the number of state-subsidised places has been increased for the Liszt Academy. As citizens of EU countries are eligible for state-subsidised places in higher education institutes in Hungary, we are encouraging applicants from those countries to apply for them.

!! UPDATE!! We received the information on 3 February, that the application deadline for state-subsidised places has been extended, the new deadline is 24 February. If you would like to apply, you need to notify the International Registrar's Office until 15 February (if you don't speak Hungarian) because the application procedure is in Hungarian so we have to assist you in filling in the form. Please contact Ms Edina Csalló for further information and assistance (E-mail) until 15 February.  Please, don't send your application material and application fee before consulting her.

Those who speak Hungarian fluently can directly apply through the higher education application centre at www.felvi.hu until 24 February.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR EUROPEAN UNION CITIZENS

When applying for our full-time Bachelor (BA) or Master (MA) Studies, citizens of the European Union can apply for two different study statuses, which are:

a)      state-subsidised study;

b)     self-financed study.

In both cases the application deadline is 15th February.

Please read the following carefully and contact the Team of the International Registrar’s Office before applying to make sure you have chosen the option most suitable for you.

a)   STATE-SUBSIDISED STUDY

Applying for this status is possible only via the centralized website www.felvi.hu

Since all Hungarian applicants are obliged to apply via this website regardless of the University they choose, the application procedure has to be started well before the deadline. Once you have registered, additional documents might be requested from you.

The website is currently available in Hungarian only, which means that the application form and all information and requests sent to you after the registration are in a standardized, Hungarian form, so you will probably need help in translating. Due to the amount of work this procedure requires, the Liszt Academy has the capacity to assist only the first ten applicants.

Please note that we have only a small number of state-subsidised study places and that the entry examinations are highly competitive! Hungarian applicants usually have at least 10-11 years of intensive practical and theoretical musical training behind them before trying to enter the Academy and are thus well acquainted with our music education system. You will be facing a large number of excellently prepared applicants competing for a small number of places.

POSSIBILITIES AFTER SUCCESSFUL ENTRY EXAMINATIONS

If your overall performance was convincing and you are offered a state-subsidised study place, you have the following options:

  1. 1.      Studying in English

  1. 2.      Studying in Hungarian

If you join classes in Hungarian, you are expected to have an excellent command of the language in oral and written form. You will be treated as a native speaker in both classes and exams!

If you want to increase your chances of getting a study place, you have to consider applying for a self-financed study place too! When filling out the application form at www.felvi.hu, you have the option of indicating that you are interested in both state-subsidised and self-financed study places. If you forget to indicate this and apply for a state-subsidised place only, you can’t be offered a place as a self-financed student either, regardless of the results of your entry examinations!

b)   SELF-FINANCED STUDY

If you decide to apply directly for a self-financed study place, you will be asked to send your application to the International Registrar’s Office.

You will find the application form with the list of all further documents needed, just as the data of our bank account to which the non-refundable application fee of 60 euros has to be transferred here:

Please also note the following:

- entry examinations are always held during the last week of June and first week of July;

- the academic year begins in September.
