Admission requirements for MA studies - Violin

 

 

1. A scale through 4 octaves with triad arpeggiation  - from Flesch, Bloch, Giles, etc. - in moderato and presto tempos.

 

2. Double stops - third, sixth, octave - in tempo chosen by the candidate at least until the 6th position.

 

3. One of the following from J. S. Bach Partitas for Solo Violin:

 

G minor Adagio and Fugue,

 or

A minor Grave and Fugue,

 or

C major Adagio and Fugue,

 or

D minor Chaconne

 

4. One etude by Paganini

5. The first movement with cadence of a violin concerto by one of the following composers: Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Bartók: 2nd violin concerto

 

 

 

General Admission Requirements – MA

 

Written examination:


 Bass harmonisation: harmonisation of a bass line of cca. 10 notes, indication of the accords with figures.

 Analysis: formal analysis of the opening movement of a sonata from the stylistic circle of Haydn and Mozart piano

 sonatas.

 

 Exam in general music studies:


 a. Identification of 10 music pieces - possibly composer and title, but at least the epoch or style and identification or

     the genre.

b. Explanation and interpretation of 10 music terms, concepts, titles, etc.
